Up Coming Releases to Meh About: Meh...

As the cynicism of instantaneous access and musical disillusionment begin to poison my every thought and alter the color of my blood to a dull, sleepy grey, I have decided to declare the year 2013 as "The Year of Meh."

I mean really, how can anyone be excited for music anymore?  Why bother?  All of it's free and sounds exactly the fucking same... I don't know guys.  How many more times can we listen to the same band repeat the same sounds from the early 90's over and over and over.  How many more Nintendocore guitar sweeps and type-writer drums can we stomach?  How many more times can I refer to the production style as "murky" and "static-choked" before those adjectives lose all meaning?(Actually they kind of already have...)

Meh... here's some upcoming releases to steal off the internet, listen to once and never listen to again...

I don't know man, normally I'd be so fucking excited for the new Cultes des Ghoules.  I mean yeah I pre-ordered it on two formats, but why?  I'm just wasting my money, since I already downloaded the European CD rip.  I've already listened to the album once and forgot about it.  It's just more of the same, even if the album is incredible and amazing and worth owning on two formats and an early album of the year contender... meh

Hasn't this leaked yet?  I mean everything leaks.  I want the leak man.  I'm not sure why, cause this new song fucking sucks.  Remember when Deeds of Flesh were making some of the greatest Brutal Death Metal imaginable?  Remember Path of the Weakening?  That shit was really wicked, even on the 192 kbps rip I downloaded.  I actually listened to that one twice.  Now Deeds of Flesh sound like every other lame Brutal Tech Death band on the planet: over-produced, toothless and wanky.  The definition of meh...

Shit man, this one is gonna blow up the internet when it leaks.  Wait, it leaked?  When?  Can someone hook me up with a link?  Seriously, I can't live without hearing this.  Not that I even like Portal or anything.  But what else am I supposed to listen to on my 80 GB iPod all day?  Shit I actually want to listen to?  This new song is actually pretty cool though, sounds like the best Portal album so far.  But still pretty meh I guess...

Man, this new song fucking sucks.  Will probably still download.

 New Wormed huh?

....

FUCK YEAH!

Ok, so maybe 2013 has some pretty cool shit on the horizon.  Maybe there is some shit to get excited about and a lot to look forward too.  Maybe there isn't a good reason for all my apathy and instant access fatigue...

...

No, fuck music.

Upcoming Releases To Get Horny About: Leaks Are Bad

Yeah, so the new Mutilation Rites album has already leaked.  So for a lot of people, this album is already old.  Me personally?  I don't download leaks.  Not anti-download: I download quite a bit of shit.  But many times, I give bands the common courtesy of waiting until after the official release before pirating the album... and sometimes, when I am feeling kinda crazy, I even pay for music.  In 2012.  Creepy no?

I absolutely adored last years double release from Botanist, and I see the project as one of the best and most exciting in Black Metal right now.  So I could not be more stoked for the new album, which sees Botanist become even more strange, spell binding and atmospheric.

Another leak, this one has been up on Youtube for a few weeks now, and yes I listened to it that way.  No where near enough to make a full judgment, but my initial feeling is this: pretty bad.  I am in the minority when it comes to Belus and Fallen: while neither were masterpieces, I enjoyed them.  Umskiptar feels totally toothless, and frequently heads into "irredeemably cheesy" territory.  Still, once I get my hands on the full length, I can spend more time with it.

Fucking killer new band from Sri Lanka, Genocide Shrines debut EP should be hitting pretty soon.  Thick, skull crushing, atmospheric Death Metal.  Reminds me a lot of Innumberable Forms and Muknal.  Should be one of the best releases of the year.

Also got a couple of bonus links for all my lovely readers:

New Martyrdod track via Pitchfork: http://pitchfork.com/reviews/tracks/13519-kottberg/

Sounds solid.  Martyrdod deliver the goods.

New track from The Tallest Man on Earth via Rolling Stone: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/mp3-download-the-tallest-man-on-earth-1904-20120515

We here at the Curse are big Folk music fans, so any news of The Tallest Man on Earth is gonna be a big deal.  Truth be told, Kristian Matsson's project has been on a steady decline since Shallow Grave, but at the very least There's No Leaving Now should be pretty and relaxing.

Upcoming Releases To Get Horny About: Second Stage

It feels like years since Nuclear War Now! announced the release of an upcoming full length from Chilean witch doctors Wrathprayer. In Utter Darkness turned a lot of heads, but I found the demo's production... essentially broken. But when I heard this new track from the upcoming The Sun of Moloch: The Sublimation of Sulphur's Essence Which Spawns Death and Life, I pretty much shit myself. I mean even the name of the album is killer as fuck. Easily the most anticipated Metal release on the upcoming release schedule.

Is anyone else disappointed with this new Black Breath track? It's pretty obvious Black Breath are going in a more... Thrash heavy direction. Considering I'm not the biggest fan of Thrash Metal, this isn't the direction I was hoping Black Breath would go. Even the cover art looks horrible...

I'm really digging the direction Impiety is going right now. It might be a little pretentious(their songs are getting really fucking long), but it's much more expansive and inventive than their previous material. This particular new track from the upcoming Ravage & Conquer album shows a much stronger Angelcorpse vibe to the whole project. Perhaps Impiety are seeking to give us the Morbid Angel album we all deserve? Increasingly stoked for them.

Time to go completely off the rails. As some of you might know, I have been all about obscure Japanese Post Rock/Post Punk/Math Rock. Not sure how this ended up being the case, but within hours I was completely obsessed with bands like 百蚊(100 Mosquitoes) and Mass of the Fermenting Dregs. One band I have discovered during this unholy and completely ridiculous musical obsession is ハイスイノナサ(haisuinonasa), who play some of the most beautiful and heart wrenching Math Rock/Post Rock I have heard in a long time, with elements of Shoe Gaze and Electronica thrown in for extra tastiness. The bands first two "Mini CDs," about a city and The Child of Imagination And City, are just spectacular, and are available for streaming and "name-your-price" purchase via Bandcamp

Upcoming Releases To Get Horny About: It Begins...

Anyone hear the new Rottrevore tracks? Were you as disappointed as I was? Fear not, for Denmark's Undergang are here to sate your hunger for primitive, static choked Death Metal. An early favorite for Album of the Year, no doubt.

Some seriously hateful Bestial Black Metal here from one of the best in the business, Spain's Proclamation. The trvest static you will ever listen to.

Sweet, sweet weedely-weedley-screech. Oh how I missed you. I love wank, and I love Spawn of Possession. Sure waited long enough for this, and my expectations are through the roof.

Martin Van Duren is the worst vocalist I have ever heard, but fuck if Asphyx don't have riffs. The riffs are so good, I can ignore Duren's retard grunts.
